Microsoft has officially announced that Death Stranding will be joining PC Xbox Game Pass on August 23. The announcement was first confirmed yesterday by leaker Tom Henderson, but now we have all of the details straight from the horse’s mouth.
Microsoft made the announcement in an Xbox Newswire post earlier today. Although the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding was released on PC last year, Microsoft makes no mention of that version of the game coming to PC Game Pass in the post. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut made a lot of quality-of-life improvements to the original game when it was released in 2021 and also included extra content. Unfortunately, for those who wanted to play the Director’s Cut on PC Game Pass, it looks like it’s vanilla Death Stranding only.
There has been no announcement on whether the Director’s Cut upgrade will be available to purchase from Microsoft (like on Steam) for those who want it. Microsoft did announce that PC Game Pass players will be able to unlock some items. The following will be unlockable for Game Pass players as they play through the story.
• Chiral Gold / Omnireflector “Ludens Mask” Sunglasses (Color Variant)
• Gold and Silver Power Skeleton
• Gold and Silver All-Terrain Skeleton
• Gold and Silver Armor Plate
Unfortunately for Xbox console gamers, Death Stranding will only be coming to Xbox on PC, and that is unlikely to change. A quirk of publishing rights is likely what has led to Death Stranding being available on PC Game Pass in the first place. Although the IP is owned by Sony, the PC version of the game is published by 505 Games. Meaning Microsoft has been able to circumvent Sony to get the game on PC Game Pass. The Xbox maker wouldn’t be able to do the same thing to get the game on its consoles.
Death Stranding will be released on PC Game Pass on August 23. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
